With the new IBL season just months away, the Lower Mainland’s only professional basketball team has announced a change and an addition. The team is now known as the “BC Titans” with new General Manager, Sharleen Graf leading the charge.

Titans owner Jonathan Mara spoke about the decision for changing the Vancouver Titans into the BC Titans.  “The BC name better identifies us as a team that not only represents the Lower Mainland, Vancouver corridor in the IBL, but more broadly the whole province as we had players on our team from other areas of BC and the home games are there for all fans in the Lower Mainland to enjoy,” said Mara.  “To add to the confusion last year, the IBL includes another franchise with the Vancouver name – the Vancouver Volcanoes, located in Vancouver, Washington.  Changing the team name to the BC Titans eliminates any confusion among fans of the IBL.”

With a long history in sports management and marketing the BC Titans new General Manager, Sharleen Graf, has been involved with many professional basketball league’s that have made a stop in Canada including the WBL, IBA, IBL and CBA.  She has also worked with the CFL, NFL, NBDL and professional baseball leagues.  She has a background in event facilities management including soccer centres to concert arenas and collaborating with City’s and Tourism groups from Moose Jaw and Calgary to Tyler, Texas.  All of these great attributes’ will come in handy as the Titans build their following in Beautiful British Columbia and play their home games in the Langley Event Centre.  “It feels great to return to professional sports and have the court as an office again.  I am excited about being a part of this growing community building the BC Titans with a great owner, advisory board and fantastic fans!” said Graf.

The BC Titans look forward to another exciting season at the Langley Events Center starting in the Spring of 2010. The Titans will look to build on the success of their inaugural season, which saw the team earn a spot in the 2009 IBL play-offs.  BC Titans home games are at the Langley Events Centre, click here for schedule.
